LEADER grant programme

Small businesses, rural communities and farms in the South East have all benefitted from a funding worth almost £2m from the LEADER grant programme. LEADER, or  Liaison Entre Actions de Développement de l’Economie Rurale is fund where money that comes from the European Agricultural Fund is used to help and support a wide range of enterprises in rural locations.

The LEADER programmes that cover West Sussex  and its surrounding area have just been awarded their 101st grant, which means that more than £1.8m has now been awarded to the region. To celebrate this achievement, the deputy leader of West Sussex County Council, Lionel Barnard, is to visit some of those projects that have been awarded the grants..

Mr Barnard has said that thanks to the funding received from the LEADER programmes, the projects that were being supported would be creating 86 new jobs,  and a further 199 were being safeguarded.
