Sussex boat designers create super yacht

The space age is now upon us again as the $15m super yacht, the Adastra, is now complete after five years of work by Sussex boat designers that built it in China. The yacht is so high tech that it can even be controlled with an iPad and has a range of 4,000 miles. Overall, it can reach speeds of up to 22.5 knots and is the ultimate symbol of wealth.

John Shuttleworth, a Sussex yacht designer was in charge of the product that was made for Anto Marden the billionaire businessman. Marden works out of Hong Kong and made his large fortune from the shipping industry so it is only fitting that he crafted his own yacht to get between two islands that he owns just off the shoreline of Indonesia.

The boat itself measures 42.5m in length and 16m in width and weighs about 52 tons. It is powered by two Yanmar 110hp @ 3200 rpm outrigger engines and one very powerful C18 engine that runs at 2300 rpm. On board is a saloon area, a navigation station, and a dining table. Over towards the deck of the yacht is a bar area, sofa, and dining area and at the main helm there is seating for two as well as another saloon area.

The Adastra is just the newest super yacht to reach completion in the last few years as last year Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea Football Club, purchased a £300m super yacht that came complete with two helipads, two swimming pools, a hair salon, submarine, gym, and dance floor.

Eclipse is the name of his yacht and it has room for entertaining with 15 bedroom cabins that all have six feet wide televisions and luxury bathrooms. All parties on the yacht are designed for privacy as the yacht has a shield of light beams that protects those on board from paparazzi photos. It also treats guests to a steam bath, whirlpool, and sauna.
